Date: September 10th 2010

Not exactly a museum trip, but we have a program where students experience an interactive theatrical program during Black History Month. Our post-event form is below. The majority of our audience members are 5th graders; although we have 4th grade through high school students participating.

We discovered it made a HUGE difference to ask the students to differentiate between favorite story and the one that taught the most.  Otherwise, the character with the funniest script always topped the list. Responses to which one taught them the most elicited comments on scripts that the student found uncomfortable or difficult to experience, but demonstrated to us that the students were able to articulate the value of the strong content.

We’ve also had some interesting responses to the last question, whether they would recommend the program to other kids their age.
