The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri is seeking a Head, Interpretation, Digital Learning, and Evaluation. This position provides vision and leadership for three distinct yet interrelated functions in the Education Division. In collaboration with curatorial and design colleagues, s/he oversees the strategy and processes for interpretation for exhibitions and the museum’s encyclopedic collection. The position directs digital learning initiatives across the Division expanding visitor learning and engagement through new platforms on and offsite. The Head supervises evaluation and visitor research across the museum, supporting the institution in using data to address essential questions and communicate impact. Working in collaboration with curators, designers, and IT staff, the Head, Interpretation, Digital Learning, and Evaluation brings knowledge of visitor behavior and learning, current museum research, and evaluation methodology and practices. This position supervises a department of 5 FT staff and reports to the Director, Education and Interpretation.


Experience

·       Masters degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Education, Public Administration, or related field

·       Minimum of 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: interpretation, digital resources, or evaluation/visitor research.

·       Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills

·       Demonstrated understanding of current museological and educational theories and practice, as well as meaningful engagement in relevant communities of practice

·       Demonstrated experience forming and motivating interdisciplinary teams

·       Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, decision making, and organizational skills

·       Well-developed writing and editing skills that demonstrate the ability to write for multiple platforms and diverse audiences
