The Interpretation Department at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens is seeking a summer Museum Education intern.
The intern works closely with the education staff to implement and plan a variety of programs to engage visitors in the museum’s collections and stories. The education department offers programs for audiences of all ages—including lectures, hands-on workshops, festivals, as well as student and Girl Scout programs. The intern will assist the department with developing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating programs in a museum setting. The intern will gain insight and have the opportunity to develop skills related to the work performed by museum educators such as writing, researching, developing program activities, and typical administrative tasks associated with museum educators’ responsibilities.
Specific areas of focus depend on departmental needs and the intern’s skills and interests, but duties could include:
· Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of Hillwood’s annual French Festival
· Assist in the preparation for other programs, such as Spooky Pooch Howl-o-ween Celebration
· Observe and lead components of programs for summer student groups
· Attending inter-departmental planning and summary meetings
· Opportunity to interact with museum staff in meaningful ways from a variety of museum departments, such as Curatorial, Marketing, Visitor Services, and Exhibitions.
The internship runs from June through mid-August. The internship entails a commitment of no less than 8 consecutive weeks, 16 hours per week, 3 days a week. The majority of the internship will take place during the workweek with some weekend hours required. Actual days and hours of work will be determined by mutual agreement. The internship is unpaid.

Cover letter should include dates applicant is available; what skills, abilities, and experience the candidate brings to the position; and how the internship relates to the candidate’s long-term goals.
