Hello everyone,

The MIT Museum is hiring Teachers in Residence and Public Programs Interns for the summer. Please see the attached blurbs for more information.

Summer Teachers in Residence

Teachers will also develop and implement an independent project that augments current workshops at the MIT Museum. This is an excellent opportunity to gain a behind-the-scene perspective of the Museum, explore current science and technology research at MIT, share your classroom expertise with our staff, and serve as a liaison between the Museum and your school.

Successful applicants will be current middle or high school teachers specializing in science, math and/or engineering. S/he will be interested in collaborating with the Museum's Education & Public Programs team to evaluate existing workshops, expand the Museum's educational offerings, and learn about informal education pedagogy. Must be flexible, detail-oriented and a team player. Summer educator positions are temporary full-time (35 hours/week, M-F, 9:30-5pm) for six weeks, from July 1-August 9, 2019 (with 1-2 days prior for orientation and training). Compensation of $22-$25/hour will be provided, based on experience. Please send resume and cover letter to edsearch@mit.edu.

Public Programs Internship
The MIT Museum is seeking several outgoing, knowledgeable and friendly individuals to make the science and technology in our galleries come alive this summer. Learn about museum education, engage with children and adults about engineering, and explore current topics in science and technology. The interns will work in the Education and Public Programs Team and assist with leading and developing science and engineering demonstrations and group activities, organizing evening programs, interpreting exhibits and leading gallery tours, assisting with educational workshops, and researching background materials for Museum exhibits and programs. Each intern will develop and implement an independent project that augments current public programming in the MIT Museum.

The successful applicants will be current undergraduate or graduate students, studying education, museum studies, science and/or engineering. Must be flexible, detail-oriented and a team player. Some experience working with K-12 audiences preferred. The competitive Public Programs internships require a commitment of 30-40 hours/week for 9 weeks from June 10 - August 9, 2019. Hourly compensation is available or candidates may arrange for academic credit through their schools. To apply, please fill out the online application listing "Summer Programs Intern" in the Opportunity field. All applicants must submit a resume and cover letter which should include information about how the internship relates to candidate’s long-term goals and academic studies.
