Hi Anthony,

I work at the Morven Park Center for Civic Impact located in Leesburg, Virginia. Morven Park is a historic site encompassing 1,000 acres and is the home of three museums. A legacy of civic involvement is woven into the records, buildings, and historical accounts of the Park—having been a private residence of two governors.

Today, we honor that legacy by creating engaging and insightful K-12 civics programs that demonstrate the impact one can have on his/her community. All of Morven Park’s lessons enforce four core principles of active citizenship:

  • Know your voice matters
  • Examine current issues
  • Take responsibility
  • Make an impact

We offer varied experiences and options for K-12 students in our county, all at no cost.

  • In-class activities
  • Field trips to Morven Park
  • Lesson plans and materials for educators to use in the classroom
  • Single-lesson, skill-building activities
  • Multi-lesson projects
  • Summer leadership classes
  • Hands-on, experiential learning utilizing our museum collections and our 1,000 acres of outdoor space

If you are interested in learning more about our specific program offerings, they can be found at www.MorvenPark.org/education or if you would like to hear more about what we do, feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Alecia Bryner

Hi Anthony,

The Univ of Michigan, is our home and home to the Gerald Ford Library. The Ford library's partner institution, the Ford Museum in Grand Rapids mentions on the museum's website that their exhibit teaches democratic citizenship.

You may know all the presidential museums and their missions but in case not, this may be of interest.

Hello everyone,

I am working on writing a piece on museums and their civic mission, and am really looking for some interesting case studies on how museums work with their visitors/ audience/ community to:

  1. Build civic knowledge
  2. Foster a civic mindset
  3. Help cultivate a civic skillset
  4. Encourage civic action

Ideally I'd love to explore a broad diversity of institutional size, location, focus, mission, etc...

If your museum is doing great work in one or more of these areas, I'd love to chat with you.

Thank you,
