Education Associate (Education Program Assistant)

Historic Speedwell in Morristown, NJ, a historic site of the Morris County Park Commission seeks an Education Associate for immediate hire.  This technology and history museum celebrates the stories of the 19th century through the development of the electromagnetic telegraph, the Speedwell Ironworks, and the unique members of the Vail Family.  This 7.5-acre site preserves the homestead estate of Stephen Vail, including the National Historic Landmark Factory Building.  This position works under the supervision of the Historic Education and Volunteer Supervisor.  The Education Associate will develop, present, and evaluate education programs at Historic Speedwell for the benefit and enjoyment of a specific audience.  Essential functions include: researching and understanding their target audience, developing education programming for their target audience, creating all necessary materials for their programs, implementing their programs, training other staff on how to present their programs, evaluating their programs as per Historic Speedwell’s evaluation rubric, and all other duties as assigned.  The candidate should be a graduate of a college of recognized standing with a major program of study in history, education, American studies, museum studies, or a related field; Master’s Degree or work towards an advanced degree preferred.  This is a year-round, part-time position and is limited to 28 hours per week.  The salary is $14.25/hour.  The chosen candidate must be able to work a combination of days that will include all weekends April through October, and one weekend in early December.  For consideration, please forward a resume and three references to: Maressa McFarlane, Historic Education and Volunteer Supervisor, mmcfarlane@morrisparks.net.
