RE: Age old question in a new age

The Roswell Museum and Art Center hosted a Family STEAM Night this past May. We had over 400 attendees and asked parents/guardians to sign a photo permission form for their children as they came in the door. Most were fine with signing but we did have a few refuse. For those people who did not want their images used for museum publications and promotions we just gave them a plain lanyard to wear during the event so our photographer knew not to take their picture.

For adult events we do not ask participants to sign a photo permission form but we do make it obvious when museum staff is taking images so people can object if there is an issue.

Hope this is helpful!

Best,

Amanda

Subject: [talk] Age old question in a new age

Hi,

Just curious to know how other institutions deal with photo release forms (or not) when capturing images during events for posting on social media or  other advertisement use.

We have not had any issues but are wondering if there are “best practices” that we could be using just to be safe and considerate of our guests.

We would welcome any suggestions, or pertinent experiences.

Thanks!
