Docent service requirements

October 18th 2017

Good morning, We are in the process of formalizing and growing our docent program in anticipation of opening our newly expanded museum next year. In the past, the docents had very general training and touring requirements that were vaguely spelled out in their bylaws - expectations that had no 'consequences' if not met.  Many of our docents (both at my current museum and at a previous one where I worked with a larger docent program) complained that, with 'consequences' not spelled out/enforced by staff, those ...Continue Reading

Mobile App Data

October 17th 2017

Hello! I’m working to evaluate our mobile app (hosted through OnCell), and I’m interested in gathering some comparable data from other museums.  If your museum has a mobile guide or app, and you are willing to answer a few questions, please email me directly: Is your mobile guide/app hosted by OnCell, custom designed, or other third party host? How many downloads/active users do you have per month? What is the duration that visitors use your app? (minutes/session) Thanks! Maria Iafelice *Docent Program Manager* T ...Continue Reading

RE: Bluetooth mics for tours

October 17th 2017

Good morning, Jaime, We use wireless mics and I find them to be extremely helpful for the audience and for the tour guide (as it can really help them to project without having to abuse their vocal chords). I also use them for teaching programs here at the Museum or offsite in schools. Here is the link to the ones we most recently purchased https://www.amazon.com/WinBridge-Rechargeable-Amplifier-Microphone-Amplifiers/dp/B01D84YAKU/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1508254121&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=wireless+mics+win+brid ...Continue Reading

Bluetooth mics for tours

October 17th 2017

Good morning.  I have started research in locating wireless Bluetooth mics for tours.  It’s been pretty fruitless so far.  My goal is to be able to find one where the tour guide would wear the mic during the tour (walking/bike) and people who could not hear it well could use their smartphones to hear the tour via Bluetooth.  So multiple people would need to able to access the mic.  Does anyone know if a wireless mic with Bluetooth capabilities exist? I feel as if this should exist but maybe n ...Continue Reading

RE: Drop-in studios for teens?

October 9th 2017

Drop-in studios for teens? Hi Emma, Artlab in Washington DC might be a good place to look. I talked to a few people who were a part of the education staff there and it seemed like a good program for that sort of thing.
