Museum-Ed strives to
meet the needs of museum educators by providing tools and resources by
and for the museum education community. Museum-Ed is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing museum educators opportunities to ask questions, to exchange ideas, to explore current issues, to share resources, to reflect on experiences, and to inspire new directions in museum education. Museum-Ed is not a membership organization. All of the resources on the Museum-Ed Web site are free and available to educators in any type of museum, and anyone interested in the field of museum education.
There are a variety of ways to participate in Museum-Ed, including a discussion list called talk@museum-ed with searchable archives, a conference and professional development calendar, blogs, sample training materials for docents and volunteers and other material contributed by museum educators.
If you are not a member of the talk@museum-ed discussion list, we hope you'll join the discussion. Please also consider contributing your ideas for additions to this Web site, either on the discussion list or by writing the editors below. With your input, Museum-Ed can continue to represent the ideas and contributions of all who use its resources.

The History of Museum-Ed
Museum-Ed began as a discussion list created in response to an Education Committee (EDCOM) luncheon at the 1995 American Association of Museums Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. At the luncheon, museum educators expressed a need to create a network for the easy exchange of information. With that goal in mind, the Museum-Ed Discussion List was created by Kris Wetterlund and Larisa Somsel. In 2003 the list was upgraded and moved to the Museum-Ed Web site to provide additional support and services. By late 2004 the discussion list had exceeded 1000 registered subscribers and Museum-Ed applied and was approved as a not-for-profit organization and conducted its first board meeting in May of 2005. Museum-Ed bylaws are available upon request.
The current Museum-Ed board members are: Kris Wetterlund, President and Chair of the Board; Scott Sayre, Secretary; Troy Smythe, Lesley Wellman, Nancy Allen, Christine Castle, Members at Large.
