Hello Museum Educators,

My name is Morgan Hollemans, and I am a graduate student in the Master of Museum Education program at the University of British Columbia Vancouver. I am conducting a research study titled Anti-Racist Pedagogies in United States Art Museums’ Educational Programs: Exploring the Role of Art and Empathy, which aims to better understand how art museum educators employ art to foster empathy as a strategy to support anti-racist pedagogies among pre-K-12 students within contexts of othering discourses.

I am recruiting art museum educators with at least five years of experience in the field who are currently practicing in the United States to participate in a one-hour online interview conducted via Zoom.

This research study has received ethics approval from the University of British Columbia as part of the Master of Museum Education program under the supervision of Dr. David Anderson.

During this interview, you will be asked questions about:

  • Your educational practice
  • If and how anti-racist pedagogy is practiced in your museum
  • The relationship between art museum education and anti-racist education
  • How you understand the role of empathy in art and anti-racist pedagogy

Participants in this study will receive a $15 USD Starbucks gift card via email after the interview, regardless of whether they choose to withdraw themselves.

If you have any questions or if you are interested in participating in this study, please contact me at mohollem@student.ubc.ca

Thank you!

Morgan Hollemans
