Here at the Tsongas Industrial History Center, we run week-long summer day camps every year. While we are continuing with our three popular camps, we're compelled to change the organizational structure around them. Does anyone have suggestions for resources about leadership and planning strategies for day camps? If you operate a summer camp as part of your museum or institution, would you be willing to chat? Thanks for any suggestions! *Oren Bendavid-Val* /Museum Education Supervisor/ TSONGAS INDUSTRIAL HISTORY CE ...Continue Reading

Hi Ryan, Greetings from Rochester! Yes, we waive admission cost for all Title I schools, asking them to indicate on their online reservation form. While we don't by default pay for buses, we do advertise having a bus fund to cover, so the teacher or school needs to request that from us. We eat the cost of the admission internally, but for our bus find we reached out to a local granting agency interested in supporting arts access to help us with that. It's not in perpetuity, so I'll probably have to apply agai ...Continue Reading

Hello Ryan-Greetings from Pennsylvania. We are a small science and arts center. We recently reviewed our policy around Title I discounts. We market the discount as STEM Scholarships, and any school building receiving Title I funding gets the discounted rate. We obtain a list from the State Dept of Ed listing schools that receive Title I funds rather than just Title I eligibility (40% or more EOF). There is not a separate application. We do have some l ...Continue Reading

Greetings! The Wadsworth is currently installing a glass and light work with profanity front and center. It eye-catching, visually compelling and will be impossible for visitors to miss as they go through the museum. I'm hoping to crowd source any information folks use in the context of school tours. Does anyone have a resource for how to address questions from students about profanity and language in artwork that is often considered taboo? There is a lot out there for addressing nudity in art and the nude/naked disc ...Continue Reading

Hi Ryan,At the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, TX, our Art Access program provides free admission for all Title I school students. If they want to add an art-making workshop on top of their guided gallery experience, we do charge the regular $3/student but are sometimes able to waive this. The program also provides reimbursement for bus transportation, up to $200/bus. This year we are also hoping to help provide reimbursement for substitute teacher costs for Title I schools (for subs who have to come in when othe ...Continue Reading
