Hi Adrienne! I am going to offer a kind of out-there suggestion and say to look at the Our Whole Lives Lifespan Sexuality Education program (O.W.L). There are a lot of resources that address nudity and how bodies are all different. Its very well organized and has levels from age 4 all the way to 104. I’ll link it here: https://www.uua.org/lifespan/owl. It might not be what you are looking for, but it might help! There is also a UU church in Rochester that may have paper copies of the resources, so ask them! Best, ...Continue Reading

Hi Adrienne, I’ve used the resource from the Chicago Art Institute helpful in training front of house staff to speak with visitors and tour groups of all ages. I also picked up a brochure from the Palm Springs Art Museum not all that long ago. See attached. Hello Museum Educators, My name is Morgan Hollemans, and I am a graduate student in the Master of Museum Education program at the University of British Columbia Vancouver. I am conducting a research study titled /Anti-Racist Pedagogies in United States Art Museums’ Educational Programs: Exploring the Role of Art and Empathy/, which aims to better understand how art museum educators employ art to foster empathy as a strategy to support anti-racist pedagogies among pre-K-12 students within contexts of othering discour ...Continue Reading

Dear colleagues, I’m hoping to benchmark and crowdsource information from any of you who run off-site programs for adults led by docents or volunteer educators. I’m in the process of revamping an outreach tour program that has limped along since the pandemic. I currently oversee a program where docents go out to community centers, libraries, senior centers, country clubs, assisted living/senior living communities and deliver thematic PowerPoint tours of the museum’s collection. At the moment, there is no char ...Continue Reading

Hi all, I now work in an organization that pretty regularly shows photographic exhibitions that include nudity. I don't feel great about just writing off any and all educational initiatives when nudity is present, but I also know considerations need to be made for both K-12 audiences and family audiences. I'm curious - does the hive mind have resources (books, articles, professional development opps, etc) that can help me become more confident when asked "what's the educational component of this exhibition? ...Continue Reading

Nicole, We just came out of our summer camp season as well. We do not have a special policy for neurodivergent. We have found that a clear policy should be applied to everyone equally. This policy is outlined in a packet available on our website and also sent out to parents before the camp: Camp-Parent-Packet-Explorers.pdf Basically, we have outlined the behavioral issues that cause camp to fail to function, disruptive behaviors or violence. Parents are told what to expect from our camps and children are given ...Continue Reading

Hey there! I would suggest the volunteers leading this tour be given additional resources ahead of the tour- potential scenarios, language adjustments, etc. As far as admission, those aides/specialists sound like they’re required through an IEP or 504 plan. The way we handle that is that they’re free and don’t count towards the ratio we require. Those students would only be able up come with the aid so charge the student and comp the aid. We line that out in our chaperone policy and have a companion tick ...Continue Reading

Hi Amanda,We allow all "school staff" in free, meaning any support staff are free, as well as teachers. For parent chaperones, we allow 1 chaperone for every 10 students to be free. This means schools with different needs can bring the right amount of support, while also attempting to limit too many additional adults. Hi Nicole, We had some behavior challenges at our Girl Scout Overnights and I went to look at the permission slip that the child’s guardian must sign and it includes a check box regarding behavior. It does leave it up to the discretion of the troop leader or adult in charge (we consider our staff the adult in charge, especially if the adults chaperoning are not assisting staff in stopping inappropriate behavior).
